Leadership Change

I hope this email finds everyone doing well and enjoying God's blessings on their journey. I wanted to send ya'll an email to officially announce what I told the cohort yesterday. I will be stepping down as the organizer of this cohort, as of today. Don't fear, as we joked at the meetup yesterday, there is no "moral breakdown" or crisis in my life that is motivating this change. I actually just don't have the time and energy to manage it right now.

Many of you know that I made a career change to teaching high school a year ago. It has been very rewarding, but somewhat time-consuming as well. I also was offered a full-time football coaching position at McNeil this Fall and have been doing that since August 1st. My schedule, especially in the Fall, has been heavily filled up and I am finding I have little time to give this group the time and attention it needs.

I also feel like this group has much potential and opportunity in a city like Austin. There is no reason why we shouldn't have at least 20-30 people meeting once a month to discuss relevant issues regarding the emergent church. However, with the time and effort I have to give, we can only manage 3-5 people at our meetings. I have seen many come and many go during the 2 years of this cohort and I feel like with a little more attention and stability in the leadership role, this group could really blossom. It is time for some fresh blood and fresh ideas to lead this group.

I have thoroughly enjoyed helping to start this group and seeing it develop from nothing to having now 84 members signed up here on Meetup. My prayer is that someone else will be able and willing to take the reigns and develop the group into something even bigger and better. So, I am asking for volunteers to take the leadership role. If you are interested, please send me an email and I will be glad to work with you to transition you into the role of Organizer.

Don't worry, I am not running away. I still plan to be a part of the group and attend the meetings as my schedule will allow. I have enjoyed many great and stimulating discussions in this group and hope to be a part of more in the future, as God allows. I see this as a "step forward" for our group and am looking forward to seeing the potential of this group take hold and grow under the hands of a more skilled and passionate organizer.
